Our Programs
SCWI “School College Work Initiative” is funded jointly by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development to assist those secondary school students who may face challenges but have the potential to succeed and achieve their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and to promote pathways from secondary school into college and apprenticeship programs.
Dual Credit
For high school students who need a few credits to graduate. They come to Sheridan during their school day to take a college course. They attend their own high school the other days of the week. They can take up to 4 dual credits before they graduate from high school.
SWAC
“School Within A College” is for high school students who need many credits to graduate and who are no longer in a typical high school setting. They attend Sheridan campus 4-5 days a week – 3-4 days with a high school teacher taking high school credits and 1-2 days they take college dual credit classes.
OYAP Level 1
For high school students who are in coop and about to graduate. Interested in a trade and have applied and been accepted to take the 8/9-week level 1 apprenticeship OYAP program offered through SCWI and Sheridan. If successful, this will give them their “Level 1 in school” component of their apprenticeship journey.
SCWI students are often disengaged during their high school journey and require additional support from the SCWI program, teachers, and dual credit monitors. We are all here to encourage and assist students to work towards their OSSD and see that Post Secondary Education is a real possibility.
Our Sheridan Faculties offer regular post secondary college courses that our students can take, not integrated with other college students, but instead other high school dual credit students interested in the same outcomes.
While at Sheridan and experiencing the college campus life, SCWI students also have access to counselling, tutoring, accessible learning, and campus life as part of the re-engagement part of the program. They are encouraged to see their Post Secondary Future!
Benefits of Taking a Dual Credit Course:
- Participate in apprenticeship training and postsecondary courses and earn dual credits for your high school diploma and postsecondary diploma, degree, or apprenticeship certification.
