STUDENT SUCCESS STORIES

“I transferred from Sanctuary to SWAC at the end of the first semester. I was at Sanctuary for a year until I ran out of courses to take which is why I got transferred to SWAC. Sanctuary is a good program as well as SWAC especially when it comes to providing students with the proper mental health and educational support which a lot of students need. My time at SWAC was pretty good although I was a little anxious at first considering I was going from a small unit in a plaza to an actual college campus. Besides that, the SWAC program is the perfect program for me besides Sanctuary which both gave me the opportunity to practice being in social situations and working on dealing with social anxiety. Sanctuary was a good start in regard to slowly exposing myself to social scenarios and SWAC is the perfect program in order to expose yourself even more as well getting used to a college campus setting. I am beyond grateful for having the chance at being in both Sanctuary and SWAC as without these programs I wouldn’t be able to attend a mainstream high school and get my high school diploma. I am also grateful for the teachers and support staff who all helped me to overcome my own struggles and to keep on trying no matter how difficult. There is one support staff who told me something which really stuck with me, “In order to do what you want to do, you have to do what you don’t want to do”. That is the one sentence which has been my motivation to do what I have been doing so far. I will never forget that saying because it has really motivated me to attend school and get the remaining credits I need in order to graduate. I am set to graduate in 2 weeks from now and it feels really surreal considering I never thought I could do what I have done so far never mind graduate with a high school diploma. I went from not attending my home school at all to attending school everyday. Thank you.”

“When I first joined this program, I thought I was NOT going to enjoy it whatsoever due to it being a new environment and me not knowing anyone there. But when I was warmly welcomed into this program by Mr. Rybinski and Ms. Michalska and the students here, I then instantly loved the program. I have noticed many improvements with my attendance, marks, participation in class, as well as socializing. From a student who skipped many classes and days, got terrible marks, never talked to anyone or even participated in class turned to a student who is eager to go to school, getting much better marks than before, and made many friends and beautiful memories. I do not regret coming and joining this program. I would love for many students to experience this program because of how helpful it was for me.”
